I meant to have a separate post like this for Jeremiah, but I really did it in the first days reading. But now, before a new book I will post a brief synopsis and story behind the book. Kind of like “Behind the Music”, only for the Bible.
So we approach Lamenations. Jeremiah is recognized as the author of this book, although he refers to himself only as “I” and to Jerusalem as “she”. It mourns the fall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. and is written in poetic style with the first four chapters in an acrostic pattern (meaning that the pattern used the letters of the Hebrew alphabet as the first letter in each verse).
Thanks to the notes in the Every Man’s Bible and a new book that I bought The Student Bible Dictionary for notes on this book. I just got the dictionary and it is a great tool to have during the read. Pick it up if you can. Enjoy.

WE DID IT! We got through the book of Jeremiah! While not an uplifting book of the Bible, I found it a fascinating read. Knowing what is to come does not make it that difficult and even more fulfilling since we know that Jesus will come to be the Savior for those that have sinned. As the notes say in my Bible, God does this as a last measure, but it is because of his love that he disciplined his people.
Previously in the Daily Read, even though they asked and Jeremiah had told them what the Lord had said, Azariah and Johanan say that Jeremiah is lying and they know better. DUH! It’s off to Egypt they go for their eventual doom. God even asks:
And now the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, asks you: Why are you destroying yourselves? For no one of you will survive – not a man, woman or child among you who has come here from Judah, not even the babies in your arms. Jeremiah 44:7
Seems pretty clear cut to me, but they seem to put more stock in their idols and they get punished for this. We finished off with hope for Israel’s royal line as Evil-merodach ascends to the throne in Babylon and he is kind to Jehoiachin by giving him new clothes and an allowance to live. I believe we will see him again shortly in our reading.
Again, great job to everybody joining in the fun of the read. I am so excited that we are moving along. On to Lamentation, read on…
